Meet The Author #11 - Beth Reekles | Meet the Author - #11 Beth Reekles

If you don't speak Spanish just continue reading // Si hablas español, encontrarás la entrevista traducida un poquito más abajo.

Good morning people, here's my second post half-in-English. This section of the blog is called Meeting Authors so as you can guess we interview authors both national (from Spain) and international. If I post this interview in English is because I'd like to think that there are some fans of this amazing author that would like to read an interview to her and as our usual readers are Spanish I decided to post the real interview and the translated one for you guys to read it! Also I'd like to explain that if I asked her about The Kissing Booth it's because is the only book that editorials have translated into Spanish. Are you ready? Here we go!

Lady Moustache: What inspired you to create The Kissing Booth? Where did the idea come from?
Beth Reekles: I was tired of only reading books with vampires or werewolves ) I wanted to read a regular high school romance, but when I couldn't find any that appealed to me, I decided to write my own!

LM: How long did it take you to write the book?
BR: I spent a couple of months writing The Kissing Booth.

LM: Does Noah Flynn exist in real life? I mean…I want to meet a boy like that! Well…me, and all of our readers! Can you tell us how was this character born? And what about Elle?
BR: Sadly not, haha! I did like the bad-boy (but soft on the inside, really!) type of male characters in books, so I decided to make Noah one of them. And I wanted to write a character who was completely different from me, for Elle: I liked to stay home and write or read, so I made Elle a complete party girl!

LM: Do you know when will the second part of The Kissing Booth appear in Spain? What about The Beach House?
BR: There isn't a second part to The Kissing Booth published - I don't have any plans for a sequel at the moment, sorry! The Beach House is a novella to go alongside The Kissing Booth - it's not a sequel, because it takes place over the summer (before the ending of The Kissing Booth) and there are no plans for it to be published. I hope that makes sense.

LM: What famous writer –dead or alive – would you like to collaborate with?
BR: I'd absolutely love to collaborate with Non Pratt (author of Trouble, and Remix) - she's absolutely fantastic, a great personality, and a wonderful writer! I feel that she'd be really fun to work with.

LM: What can you tell us about your experience with Wattpad? Did you have that period of time when nobody read your novel? Or were you that kind of writers that have lots of views from the very first chapter?
BR: It was quite a gradual build of readers on Wattpad. I remember after posting the first couple of chapters, I kept frantically refreshing the page every five minutes or so just to see if anybody else had read the book, or commented. I was obsessive about it! I used to reply to all the messages I had, but I remember about halfway through the book, I posted a chapter with a horrible cliffhanger, and woke up the next morning to about 400 comments just on that chapter. It was mind-blowing, but after that, the readers and comments just kept on coming.

LM: While I was reading The Kissing Booth, I thought “this book would be a very good film”…Is there any possibility of having it on theatres?
BR: Yes! The movie rights have been sold, and there is a scriptwriter on board. I've even read the first draft of the script!

LM: Are you working on something new at the moment?
BR: Unfortunately I'm wrapped up with exams at university at the moment, but I've got a couple of ideas I'd like to work on!

LM: What are you currently reading?
BR: Again, with exams on, I've been too busy to start reading anything new - but next on my list is Paper Towns by John Green.

LM: Could you give some advices to young writers? There are lots of teen writers that usually read this blog! What do you recommend us (I include myself because I’m also a young writer)?
BR: I definitely recommend posting your work online to a site like Wattpad. You can remain as anonymous as you want. I was always scared of what people I knew would think, and of my writing being judged: but Wattpad has such a supportive community that aside from the occasional mean comment (which happens very rarely!), you get such a great response on your work, even if it's constructive critisism. And you don't have anything to lose by uploading your work. If nobody reads it, then so what? It just means nobody's seen it yet. It doesn't mean it's a bad book. It doesn't mean you should stop writing. And if people are reading and enjoying your work, it's a huge confidence boost, and keeps you motivated to finish what you started!
¡Buenas bigotudos!

¿Y bien bigotudos? ¿Habéis disfrutado con la entrevista? ¿Habíais leído Mi Primer Beso? ¿Lo leeréis? ¿Tenéis ganas de ver la peli? ¡Yo sí! ¡No dudéis en comentar!
