Meet The Author #06 - Ali Cronin | Conociendo Autores #06 Ali Cronin

If you don't speak Spanish just continue reading // Si hablas español, encontrarás la entrevista traducida un poquito más abajo.

Good morning people, here's my first post in English, so I'm sorry for mistakes! This section of the blog is called Meeting Authors so as you can guess we interview authors. I'd like to announce that I've got the amazing opportunity of interviewing the author of the Girl Heart Boy Saga, Ali Cronin! Are you ready? Here we go!
{Credits to www.alicronin.com}

Lady Moustache: What inspired you to write the Girl Heart Boy Saga?  Where does the main idea come from?

Ali: The publisher commissioned me to write the series, so it wasn’t my idea. I came up with peripheral storylines and characters, but the rest was given to me.

Lady Moustache: Where is your favourite place to write?

Ali: I don’t have much option as we live in a small house! At home I write at the kitchen table, but I do like to write in cafes as well. That can become very expensive, though, because I feel guilty if I buy one cup of tea then sit there writing for hours.

Lady Moustache: Have you ever thought of writing another Saga, called for example Boy Heart Girl, in which the stories are narrated from the boys' point of view? It would be awesome!

Ali: That is an excellent idea! Maybe I’ll suggest it to my editor.

Lady Moustache: I've been in Brighton a few years ago on a school trip and I'd like to ask you, Why have you chosen Brighton instead of Hastings, or London? What is special from Brighton ?

Ali: Again, the publishers chose Brighton as the location. I guess they chose it because it’s cosmopolitan (unlike Hastings) but not vast and urban like London. Also Brighton is quite a cool place, and being by the sea it has more potential for different locations within the same city.

Lady Moustache: Do you know when will "She's the One" and "You And Me Always" arrive in Spain?

Ali: No, I’m afraid not.

Lady Moustache: Also, will you arrive in Spain someday? We have your books waiting for a dedication on our shelves!

Ali:  Ah I would love that! Maybe one day.

Lady Moustache: Do you listen to music while you're writing? If you do, what kind of music do you listen to? Rock, Pop, Classical music?

Ali: Yes I do, always. Before I start writing any book I make a playlist of tracks that I think the main character would listen to (they also have to be tracks that I like listening to, but then I doubt I’ll ever write a book from the point of view of a death metal fan). As an example, my playlist while writing She’s the One, which is narrated by Ollie, included a lot of Smiths, Jake Bugg and Frank Turner.

Lady Moustache: Who would you like to collaborate with?

Ali: To write a book? I don’t think I could co-write a book, but I collaborate with my editors all the time. I respect their opinion; they invariably make my books better.

Lady Moustache: Will Santa Baby arrive in Spain? I think Spanish people would like to read it!

Ali: Again, I’m afraid I don’t know. The author is generally the last to know!

Lady Moustache: What are you currently reading? What book do you think we should read before to die?

Ali: At the moment I’m reading and v much enjoying The Night Manager by John le Carre, but recent books I’ve read and loved include Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch; A M Homes’ May We Be Forgiven and Nick Hornby’s A Long Way Down. My favourite book ever is Brother of the More Famous Jack, by Barbara Trapido. As for which book you should read before you die, I don’t know! I think instead you should read as much and as widely as possible. The more I read, the more inspired I feel.

Thank you so much for your time, Lady Moustache xx
You're very welcome x

What do you think about this interview? Have you enjoyed it? Have you read Ali's books? Tell us your opinion with a comment? xx

¡Hola bigotudos! ¡Cómo habéis visto aquí arriba he conseguido entrevistar a Ali Cronin!

Lady Moustache: ¿Sabes cuándo aterrizarán "She's the One" y "You and Me, Always" en España?

Ali: Oh, ¡me encantaría!

Ali: Ahora mismo estoy leyendo y  disfrutando mucho The Night Manager de John le Carre, pero algunos libros recientes que he leído y me han encantado incluyen Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch; A M Homes' May We Be Forgiven y Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down. Mi libro favorito es Brother of the More Famous Jack, de Barbara Trapido.
